Christians demand probe of Lahore lynching

LANDIKOTAL(Pakistan): Pakistan Centre Alliance Minority member Malik Arshad Masih on Wednesday condemned the killing of a Christian in Lahore and appealed to the Punjab government to take action and provide them security.

Flanked by a number of Christians, Malik Arshad Masih was talking to The News here in Landikotal and said that a young Christian Pervez Masih, the lone brother of six sisters, was gunned down in the presence of police in Lahore the other day.

He said a gang group of narcotics dealers over a petty issue gathered in front of Christian homes in Lahore Development Authority(LDA) in Bahar Colony quarters in Lahore and scuffled with their Christian community members.
He said the gang group first used harsh and insulting words and then started beating Christians with iron rods and butts of guns. He added they also opened gunfire on the Christians leaving one dead. He said that police also came there but it was too as the gang group had done what they wanted.

Arshad said police lodged FIR after their protest for a few hours.
“Dozens of people who sell narcotics besieged their houses threw stones and opened gunfire in which Pervez sustained bullet injuries and died, Arshad revealed.

Two video clips were also shared with this correspondent in which an angry mob could be seen stoning the Christian young man who is laying down on earth while police in the video try their best to stop the people from hitting the body with stones and bricks. While in the other video, the body of the Christian man could be seen hanging from one hand tied with a rope.

He said police could only arrest one alleged killer so far while others nominated in FIR are still free. He said the opponents also entered their Church in the locality and broke windowpanes and chairs. He demanded of the Lahore police chief, chief Minister and Imran Khan to take notice of the incident and provide them security.
