TORONTO: Hundreds of mourners turned out last night for a candlelight vigil in honour of Afghanistan’s General Abdul Raziq, who was killed in firing in Kandahar on Thursday.
The Afghan Canadian community members from all walks of life participated in the candlelight vigil to pay tribute to Afghanistan’s General Abdul Raziq, Who was killed along with a local intelligence commander Abdul Mohmin when a bodyguard opened fire after a meeting in the governor’s compound in Kandahar.
Candlelight vigil event Organised by “Afghan Network For Social Services” (ANSS) Canada, where the director of the board member of ANSS Mr, Arif Orya and Doc, Shakir Noori were among the dozens of Afghan community members who joined to attend the event at Downtown Toronto.
Afghan General Abdul Raziq, known for his fierce stance against the Taliban, was killed along with a local intelligence commander Abdul Mohmin when a bodyguard opened fire after a meeting in the governor’s compound in Kandahar.
Kandahar Governor Zalmay Wesa was also severely wounded on Thursday and contradictory reports about whether he survived could not be confirmed early on Friday.
General Scott Miller, the top US commander in Afghanistan who attended the meeting with Abdul Raziq only moments earlier, was not hurt in the attack. Two Americans were wounded.
In a claim of responsibility, the Taliban said they targeted both Miller and Afghan General Abdul Raziq.
