PESHAWAR: At least seven people were killed while five others were injured in three separate terrorism incidents casting a pall of grief over the region’s Eid preparations in the tribal district Kurram in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, local sources said on Sunday.

The sources said that in a series of tragic incidents, Kurram District was rocked by three separate terror attacks, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals and injuries to five others.

A local journalist Ali Afzal Afzal based in Parachinar told this correspondent that the first attack occurred in lower Kurram where unidentified assailants gunned down two brothers identified as Habib and Shereen. He said in the second incident an IED explosion took place on Kurram Road in Central Kurram claimed the lives of four family members and left one critically injured.

Ali Afzal Afzal said the third attack targeted a Frontier Crops(FC) post in Central Kurram’s Sangaruba area, wounding two security personnel. He said the incidents come amid a recent spike in militancy, prompting residents to stage a peace march demanding government action against the insurgents.

Those killed in the blast were identified as Saeedullah, his brother Hanifullah sons of Husnain, Zakariya and Naveedullah.
Another passenger sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving critical care.

The vehicle, destroyed by the explosion, was en route to Sadda for Eid shopping and to purchase sacrificial animals, highlighting the personal toll and timing of the tragedy.

Rescue 1122’s District Emergency Officer, Ghulam Murtaza, reported that rescue teams swiftly responded to the explosion, providing medical assistance to the injured and transporting the bodies to the hospital.

Those critically injured were later transferred to Peshawar for advanced treatment.

District Police Officer Nisar Ahmed Khan stated that comprehensive investigations are underway for both incidents. He emphasized the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in identifying and apprehending those responsible for these heinous acts.

Militants targeted an FC post with automatic weapons, injuring an officer and two personnel. The assault underscores the increasing threat faced by security forces in the region.

These violent episodes coincide with a significant upsurge in militant activities in Kurram District in the rest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa especially in tribal districts. In response to the growing insecurity, residents recently organized a 40-kilometre peace march, urging the government to restore peace and take decisive action against militants.

Participation from all segments of Kurram’s society unified in their call for an end to violence and a return to stability.

The wave of terror has left the community in deep sorrow, overshadowing the festive spirit of Eid. As investigations proceed, the government and security forces face mounting pressure to address the insurgency and ensure the safety of Kurram’s residents.
