PESHAWAR: A deadly clash between two tribes erupted in the Dara Adam Khel region of Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the loss of at least 16 lives and leaving numerous others wounded. The confrontation was sparked by a disagreement over the boundary of a coal mine.
According to sources, the Sunikhel and Akhorwal tribes in the Dara Adam Khel region engaged in a violent exchange of gunfire, leading to the tragic loss of 16 lives. Eleven fatalities occurred on one side, while five occurred on the other side.
The casualties and wounded individuals were promptly transported to a hospital in Peshawar for immediate medical attention and subsequent postmortem examinations.
In response to the situation, law enforcement agencies and security forces swiftly intervened to suppress the gunfire and reinstate tranquillity in the vicinity.
The police have refrained from filing a First Information Report (FIR) at this stage as they are currently conducting an investigation into the incident. Moreover, additional security measures have been implemented to mitigate the risk of further violence in the area.
It should be noted that the longstanding dispute between the Sunikhel and Akhorwal tribes regarding the delineation of Bulandari Hill persisted for a considerable duration, leading to the convening of a Jirga (tribal assembly) between the two groups. Unfortunately, as a result of the unwavering stance of the local populace on both sides, a tragic incident unfolded, resulting in significant casualties on both ends.
