RAWALPINDI: Security forces on Monday foiled a terrorist attack on Cadet College Wana in South Waziristan, killing two militants belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij, an India-backed outfit, the ISPR said.
The terrorists attempted to breach the college’s perimeter, ramming an explosive-laden vehicle into the main gate, causing damage to the infrastructure. Three attackers who entered the premises were later cornered inside the administrative block.
According to the ISPR, the attackers aimed to recreate an APS-style massacre and remained in contact with handlers in Afghanistan. “Pakistan reserves the right to respond against terrorists operating from Afghan soil,” the statement warned.
A clearance operation is ongoing under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam to eliminate the remaining militants.
Meanwhile, 20 khawarij were killed in two intelligence-based operations in North Waziristan and Dara Adam Khel over the past two days.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the Wana attack, praising security forces for their swift and decisive action.
