LANDIKOTAL: In a significant move to ensure accountability, transparency and discipline within the police ranks, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar, Dr.Mian Saeed Ahmad, has suspended 14 Khyber District police officials over their alleged involvement in corruption, drug smuggling and various illegal businesses involving narcotics, official sources said on Tuesday.
A police official in Khyber, in the condition of anonymity, told Fata Voice News Agency that CCPO Peshawar, on the grounds of intelligence sharing and thorough investigation, suspended 14 police department employees and closed police lines in Khyber.
Those suspended were included in Sub-inspector Swalzar Khan, constable Haroon, constable Nawaz Sharif, constable Muhammad Baz, constable Qazi Muhammad Tariq, Constable Awal Bat Khan, constable Naseeb, constable Saeed Shah, constable Aziz Khan, constable Bakht Munir, constable Asif, constable Khalid Khan, constable Islam Shah and constable Shah Zeb.
According to a statement issued by the Capital City Police, the suspended officials have been directed to report immediately to the Khyber district police lines. The CCPO took the action after receiving reports and evidence of serious misconduct against these officials, underscoring his commitment to maintaining a clean and professional police force.
A police official posted at Khyber police lines said furthermore, four other Station House Officers (SHOs) have been served show-cause notices for poor supervision and negligence of duty. He said CCPO Peshawar has directed the District Police Officer (DPO) Khyber to submit a written explanation within seven days regarding administrative lapses and failure to maintain effective command and control.
Dr.Mian Saeed Ahmad said that following a successful crackdown on corrupt practices within the Peshawar Police, a similar cleansing operation has now been extended to Khyber district. He made it clear that there was no room for corrupt, dishonest or irresponsible officers in the police force, and only honest, dedicated and service-oriented personnel would be allowed to continue serving the public.
He emphasized that the performance and conduct of all police officers and personnel were being closely monitored to ensure protection of citizens’ lives and property, maintenance of law and order and implementation of justice transparently and effectively.
Dr. Mian reiterated that restoring public trust in the police and ensuring internal accountability remain among the top priorities of the Peshawar Capital City Police. He added that any officer found involved in illegal practices would face strict departmental action without any discrimination. He said those charged were involved in illegal activities and would face departmental inquiry and punishment.
The latest action reflects the CCPO’s resolve to purge the force of corruption and strengthen professional policing standards across Peshawar and its adjoining districts, including Khyber.
