TORKHAM: The Torkham border crossing, a key trade artery between Pakistan and Afghanistan, reopened on Wednesday after a 27-day closure, allowing thousands of stranded trucks to resume movement.

The border was shut on February 21 due to a dispute between security forces from both countries over the construction of a checkpoint. However, after successful negotiations mediated by Jirga members, trade operations were restored at around 4:00 pm.
According to local officials, freight movement has resumed, and the border will fully reopen for ordinary travellers and medical patients on Friday.
The reopening of the Torkham border is a significant development for traders and transporters relying on this crucial passage.

Trade bodies and economic experts continue to emphasize the need for uninterrupted border operations to prevent further economic setbacks and foster stable commercial ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Thousands of trucks stranded on both sides of the border have now started crossing, easing economic disruptions.
