LANDIKOTAL: Provincial Minister Meena Khan Afridi on Saturday said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a high-level inquiry into alleged corruption in the merged districts, after receiving several complaints about the misuse of sports funds allocated to village councils for grassroots sports activities.

Local Government(LG) minister Meena Khan Afridi said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has intensified its crackdown on corruption as allegations of financial irregularities in sports funds allocated to the merged districts reached the provincial leadership.

Afridi said his ministry took immediate notice after receiving complaints regarding the misuse of the rupees 0.5 sports fund issued to each village council in the merged districts.

The minister said he had received reports of serious irregularities in the utilization of funds meant for community-level sports activities.

“Corruption in sports funds will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” Meena Khan Afridi said, adding that “every single rupee of public money is a trust and strict action will be taken against those involved in wrongdoing.”

He said he had ordered a comprehensive audit of all sports-related activities and expenditures in the merged districts to ensure full transparency. “We are committed to making all grassroots sports promotion projects completely transparent,” he added.

Following the minister’s directives, an inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the expenses incurred under sports activities. The committee would consist of Deputy Directors of the Directorate of Local Government.

According to an official notification, the committee has been tasked with examining meeting minutes, expenditure vouchers and photographic evidence related to the sports activities. The committee would submit its findings within seven days.

The notification has been circulated to all deputy commissioners and relevant authorities for immediate compliance.
