Customs Seizes Rs405m Precious Stones

TORKHAM: Customs Appraisement officials at the Torkham border foiled an attempt to smuggle millions of rupees of precious stones from Afghanistan on Saturday, officials said.

Customs official Ayaz said that taking action on a tip-off, a coal-loaded truck(KBL-1881) coming from Afghanistan, was intercepted at the Torkham border. He said that during the search, they recovered 71 kilograms of raw precious stones from the hidden cavities of the truck.

Ayaz said the seized precious stones were included of Kunzite, Green Spodomen, and Scapolite.
The value of the seized precious stones in the open market is Rs405 Million in Pakistan.
The official said they also seized the truck and coal worth 6 million rupees.
The driver identified as Noor Aziz, a resident of Afghanistan was arrested, and a First Information Report(FIR) was registered against him.
