Journalists Protest Their Colleague Assassination

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Union of Journalists and Peshawar Press Club jointly arranged a protest demonstration against the killing of journalists in Peshawar.

They were holding banners inscribed with slogans with “peace and protection for journalists”, Stop Killings of journalists”.
They marched at the front of the Peshawar Press Club and chanted slogans against the journalist’s target killings in merged districts and the rest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Speaking on the occasion, Khyber Union of Journalists president Nasir Hussain, Peshawar Press Club president Arshad Aziz Malik, and Tribal Union of Journalists(merged districts) president Qazi Fazlullah said that the government failed to protect journalists.

Qazi Fazlullah said that in the past three months, five journalists were gunned down in Pakistan while 3rd one in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said the killers of Hasan Zeb could be seen in the CCTVE video.

The journalists including Arshad Aziz Malik and Nasir Hussain said that terrorists have intensified journalists killings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They said a month ago senior journalist and former Landikotal president Khalil Jibran Afridi was gunned down near his home in Landikotal but their killers haven’t been arrested so far.
Qazi Fazlullah said they were tired of raising voices for peace and protection for journalists.

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said Pakistan gained 152 numbers in a world where journalists were not safe. RSF said in the last six months of 2024 seven journalists were killed in Pakistan while in the past 20 years, 147 journalists in Pakistan lost their lives in Pakistan.
