KHAR: Unidentified Gunmen on motorcycles shot and killed a polio worker and a policeman during a vaccination campaign in Bajaur, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on Wednesday.

According to sources, the polio worker, 25-year-old Abu Hurairah, and the policeman, 33-year-old Luqman, were attacked in District Bajaur, Tehsil Salarzai, in the Malasid Banda area. Rescue personnel quickly arrived at the scene and transferred the bodies to District Hospital Khar. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the assault.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued a statement condemning the attack.

Anti-polio campaigns in Pakistan are frequently marred by violence, with militants often targeting vaccination teams and the police officers assigned to protect them.

A five-day anti-polio campaign started on Monday in 13 high-risk districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Over 21,000 teams are administering vaccines to 4,423,000 children under the age of 5. More than 32,000 police officers have been deployed to protect the teams.
